CHILD CARE MEMBER
Hours: Part-time, 15 hours/week (may vary depending on need & location)
Hourly Non-exempt position
Independence House, Inc. (IH) is a comprehensive domestic & sexual violence community-based agency and shelter program in Barnstable County that focuses on meeting the unique and cultural needs of survivors and their children. We provide safety, food, shelter, advocacy, counseling, and other resources to assist survivors in rebuilding violence-free lives for themselves and their children. IH is committed to the values of inclusivity, equality, anti-oppression, non-hierarchical structure, a non-judgmental and empowerment framework. IH works closely with other agencies in the community, to provide a comprehensive network of resources for survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their children. IH works with these agencies and other community groups to provide education, prevention, and training about domestic & sexual violence toward community transformation and change. The Child Care Member position requires someone who is compassionate and attentive and enjoys working with children of all ages. The Child Care Member will help develop and maintain a safe, nurturing, and non-violent environment for children when their non-offending parent is receiving services at an IH location. The Child Care Member must be emotionally resilient and able to manage challenging behaviors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITEIS:
- Supervise and monitor the safety of children in a trauma-informed environment.
- Develop age-appropriate activities to engage the children while in IH care.
- Communicate with IH staff and children’s non offending parent.
- Adhere to the confidentiality policy at IH.
- Complete all necessary paperwork for IH and reporting for the VSS grant.
- Comply with contract reporting requirements.
- Complete all necessary paperwork.
- Must work evenings, nights, or weekends when necessary to meet program needs.
- Other duties as appropriate and assigned which support the staff and clients at IH.
- Attend mandatory meetings and training courses as identified by Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma and/or GED with related experience.
- CPR & First Aid Certification.
- Patience, creativity, effective communication skills, and knowledge of trauma informed care.
- Ability to function as part of a team.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of the IH Domestic & Sexual Violence Training.
- Satisfactory Criminal Background Check (CORI/SORI).
- Must possess a valid MA driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance and have access to a vehicle during work hours.
- Must obtain or maintain an account with a financial institution for direct deposit of paychecks.
