Collaborative Partnerships and Projects

Independence House spearheads and participates in multiple collaborative projects in order to serve the comprehensive needs of domestic and sexual violence survivors.

* All Independence House Staff are MGL Chapter 233 Section 20J and 20K qualified and are strategically located to support, engage, and assist survivors no matter where they enter a system.

Cape Cod Domestic Violence High Risk Task Force

Independence House is a member of the Cape Cod High Risk Task Force and in collaboration with the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office, all Barnstable County Police Departments, Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Transitional Assistance, and the Intimate Partner Abuse Education Program, respond to the needs of domestic violence at greatest risk of future serious physical harm or death.

Barnstable County Sheriff's Office

Independence House is the appointed agency to work with victims of sexual violence while at the Barnstable County Jail and the Barnstable County Correctional Facility under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). Independence House also offers psychoeducational groups to inmates on the effects of trauma as it relates to domestic and sexual violence.

Cape & Islands Regional Domestic violence Council

Independence House provides leadership and facilitation for the CIRDVC, an alliance of  human service and social justice organizations, prosecution, corrections, probation and law enforcement agencies, attorneys, and concerned individuals, that meet quarterly for the purposes of networking and professional development regarding the issues that surround domestic violence.

Barnstable County Health and Human Services Advisory Council

Independence House represents the Cape and Islands Regional Domestic Violence Council on the Advisory Council. The Council, in conjunction with the Department of Human Services, is responsible for providing advice concerning the human service needs of the residents of Barnstable County. A major purpose of the Advisory Council is to assist in identification of health and human service needs of Barnstable County in order to prioritize issues for action by County government.

Falmouth Police Department

Independence House provides domestic and sexual violence advocates and counselors on-site at the Falmouth Police Department.

Cape Cod Community College

Independence House offers office hours for students of Cape Cod Community College.  This free and confidential assistance is specific for students of the college and services are provided on campus.

Sexual & Domestic Violence Training

Independence House and the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office collaboratively offer training for individuals who work in law enforcement, probation, parole, victim advocacy and other organizations who provide support services to sexual and domestic violence survivors to enhance best practices in sexual and domestic violence cases including trauma informed response to victims and survivors.  This collaborative training is made possible with the support of VAWA (FVAW22VS; JOVW-22GG-00427-STOP)

Massachusetts Maritime Academy

Massachusetts Maritime Academy and Independence House are entered into a MOU with the object of providing off-campus alternatives for students and employees to receive sexual assault crisis services, including a sexual assault nurse examiner if available, or domestic violence crisis services in response to sexual harassment and sexual assault misconduct, and ensure that students or employees of the institution are able to access free and confidential counseling and advocacy services either on campus or off campus. The MOU additionally encourages cooperation and trainings between the two organizations.

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and Independence House are entered into a MOU with the object of providing off-campus alternatives for students and employees to receive sexual assault crisis services, including access to a sexual assault nurse examiner if available, or domestic violence crisis services in response to sexual misconduct, and ensure that students or employees of the institution are able to access free and confidential counseling and advocacy services off campus. The MOU additionally encourages cooperation and trainings between the two organizations.

Latinx in Action - Independence House Collaboration

Independence House, Inc. and Latinx in Action established a collaboration made possible through a culturally specific partnership funding award by the Family Violence Prevention Acts Fund for Rape Crisis Centers from the Department of Public Health, Bureau of Community Health and Prevention, Division of Sexual and Domestic Violence Prevention and Services.   This collaboration will provide crisis intervention, individual and longer-term counseling for Black sexual assault survivors and immigrant survivors who speak Portuguese or Spanish as a first language. Independence House-Latinx in Action Services take place at the Latinx in Action building , 116 Stevens Street, Hyannis (across the parking lot of the Hyannis Independence House office).

Latham Centers

Independence House and Latham Centers is entered into a collaborative MOU for Rape Prevention and Education programming (RPE). The collaboration aims to decrease the rates of sexual violence for individuals with different disabilities. The target population selected is informed by compelling data which shows individuals with disabilities have less access to services, experience sexual violence at higher rates than individuals who do not have disabilities and face worse outcomes from sexual violence.

Cape Cod White Ribbon Day

Through a collaboration between Independence House, the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office, and the Yarmouth Police Department, Cape Cod White Ribbon Day events have been presented for a decade.  Cape Cod White Ribbon Day events are presented and facilitated throughout the community with a focus on men coming together in solidarity and pledge to be part of the solution in ending violence against women and all gender based violence. These events take place annually each March and provide opportunities for men to participate in additional programming throughout the year.

Mass Hire Cape & Islands Youth Council

Independence House is part of the collaboration comprised of business and educational professionals, local government, and community leaders that make up The MassHire Cape & Islands Workforce Board (CIWB) Youth Council. The collaborative council aims to provide all young adults with opportunities to become productive members of the community and envisions a community where all young adults are successful in school, work, and life.

Health Imperatives

Independence House provides on-site domestic and sexual violence services to Health Imperatives patients at their Hyannis location on the 2nd Thursday of every month.

Cultural Center of Cape Cod

Independence House facilitates Creative Expressions workshops to promote and enhance physical, emotional, and mental health through use of creative and expressive art. The Cultural Center of Cape Cod’s partnership with Independence House also includes hosting and collaborating with other programs involving domestic and sexual violence, including Cape Cod White Ribbon Day events, film presentations, and Courageous Conversation meetings.

Outer Cape Community Solutions

Outer Cape Community Solutions (OCCS) is a nonprofit consortium to advance a rural health planning network for the Outer-Cape region. Independence House is a community partner in the area of domestic and sexual violence and participates in the network’s goal to bring together key healthcare, government and community-based stakeholders to enhance relationships to better coordinate care and services and increase overall access to care in the region.

Barnstable No Place For Hate

Independence House is a founding steering group member and active committee member of Barnstable No Place For Hate.

Enough Abuse Campaign

Established on Cape Cod in 2012 by Independence House in partnership with the Community Network of Cape Cod to organize, facilitate and plan the Enough Abuse Campaign in this region. Other members of the planning committee are represented by MASS Mentors, local schools, Cape Cod Children’s Place, and the Barnstable County Department of Health and Environment, as well as community members. The Campaign provides adults and communities with knowledge and skills needed to help end the silent epidemic of child sexual abuse.

Clothesline Project

Independence House was gifted the entire original Clothesline Project display and manages, maintains, and organizes displays of the Project throughout Cape Cod.  The Clothesline Project started on Cape Cod in 1990 to address the issue of violence against women, and is a vehicle for survivors affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating tee shirts.

Town of Yarmouth

Independence House offers Abuse in Later Life services in collaboration with the Yarmouth Senior Center and facilitates Primary Prevention Services to high school students in the Yarmouth School District.

Dennis Center For Active Living / Senior Center

Independence House offers support to later-in-life residents at the Dennis Center for Active Living (Dennis Senior Center) on the first and third Wednesdays of every month. 

Mashpee Senior Center

Independence House offers support to later-in-life residents at the Mashpee Senior Center on the second Wednesday of every month.

Bourne Council on Aging

Independence House offers support to later-in-life residents at the Bourne Council on Aging on the first Tuesday of every month.

Provincetown Council on Aging

In collaboration with the Provincetown Council on Aging, Independence House co-facilitates special projects and events related to domestic and sexual violence in Provincetown.

Cape Cod High Schools

Independence House collaborates with high schools across Cape Cod to facilitate primary prevention curriculums, provide awareness events, and offer office hours to support students.

Yarmouth Age-Friendly Community

Independence House is member of the planning committee for Age Friendly Yarmouth, representing accessibility for everyone to feel safe in their homes, schools and community, and provides domestic and sexual violence outreach and advocates to victims of later-in-life abuse.

CACCI Safe Harbor

Independence House offers domestic and sexual violence counseling services to residents of Safe Harbor.

Cape Cod Elder Abuse Coalition

Independence House is a member of the Cape Cod Elder Abuse Coaltition to advocate and support seniors of all genders, to live independently with dignity, and to live safely without worry of abuse of any kind, accomplishing this through a cross disciplinary collaboration, engaging our community in education and outreach, and making those who abuse accountable.

Community Network of Cape Cod

Independence House is part of The Community Network of Cape Cod, a collaborative forum for people and organizations to learn, share, and develop ideas to enhance the visibility and quality of programs and services for the well-being of children, youth and families.

Gosnold's Emerson House

Independence House offers domestic and sexual violence services for patients of Gosnold’s Emerson House who have been impacted by domestic and sexual violence.

Duffy Health Center

Independence House domestic and sexual violence advocates and counselors are available to clients of Duffy Health Center.

Falmouth Human Services

Independence House has taken part in domestic and sexual violence co-facilitated groups offered at Falmouth Human Service.
