Independence House, Inc. offers assistance to residents of all 15 towns  on Cape Cod who are survivors, children of survivors, or non-offending family members of survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

Independence House assistance is accessible at any of our four office locations; in all Cape Cod Probate and District Courts; at Falmouth Police Department; through numerous collaborations, and on the Independence House 24-hour uninterrupted hotline.

Independence House, Inc. SAFEPLAN Court Advocates

SAFEPLAN is the Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance’s statewide, court-based program that provides specially trained and certified advocates to help victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking who are seeking protection from abuse. SAFEPLAN Advocates are employed by local community-based domestic violence and sexual assault programs (Independence House Inc. on Cape Cod) and in 41 district and probate courts across the state. The services they provide to victims are free of charge.

Independence House SAFEPLAN Advocates help victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking in several ways including personalized safety planning, assistance obtaining 209A restraining orders (also called protective orders) and 258E harassment prevention orders (HPO) from the court; make referrals to local support services; provide information on legal and safety options; and accompany the victim to protective order hearings.
