The Agency

Independence House is dedicated to providing free and confidential assistance to victims/survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their children.

Independence House, Inc., is a private, non-profit organization established in 1979 to serve the needs of survivors of domestic violence and their children.  In 1981 Independence House increased victim services with a rape crisis center, providing crisis intervention and specialized assistance to serve victims of sexual assault ages 12 and up.

Each program is staffed by trained full-time and part-time counselors that meet the statutory requirements of The Massachusetts General Laws, MGL Chapter 233, Sections 20J and 20K, and are available to assist survivors in accessing community resources and provide support.

Independence House operates in four office locations on Cape Cod (Hyannis, Falmouth, Orleans, and Provincetown).  Independence House SAFEPLAN advocates assist survivors of domestic and sexual violence in all District and Probate Courthouses on Cape Cod (Falmouth District, Barnstable Probate, Barnstable District, and Orleans District).

Independence House operates a 24 hour uninterrupted emergency hotline.

In 2017, Independence House opened and operates an emergency confidential residence on Cape Cod.
