SUMMARY:Creative Expressions Workshop at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod
DESCRIPTION:Independence House will be facilitating the Creative Expression workshop from 6:00-7:00pm at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. During this workshop we invite you to join us in a process\, not product\, focused creative experience. Our goal is to promote and enhance physical\, emotional and mental health through use of creative and expressive art. We hope to decrease symptoms of depression\, anxiety and stress while increasing self-awareness and self-esteem. This group is a non-judgmental\, healing space to be creatively brave in. We will use various prompts each month to assist participants in getting to what is calling to be expressed. We are more than the trauma/abuse/pain we have suffered. We are whole people with full and diverse life experiences. Expressing ourselves creatively can get to the beauty and power of who we truly are. \n

DESCRIPTION:Cape & Islands Regional Domestic Violence Council Quarterly Meeting    \nSTRANGULATION in INTIMATE PARTNER RELATIONSHIPS:\nIdentifying\, Investigating and Prosecuting Cases  \nThursday\, February 16\, 2023\, 1:30 – 3:30pm  \nAll are welcome! \nStrangulation is one of the most lethal forms of violence employed by perpetrators of intimate partner violence\, and the overwhelming majority of strangulation incidents – that do not result in death – result in little or no visible injury to the victim.  Lack of visible injury can result in the misidentification of strangulation injury and an inability for medical professionals to provide meaningful intervention and treatment.  In the absence of visible injury\, other telltale symptoms may be present\, and it is critical for law enforcement officers and other first responders who interface with victims in the aftermath of an assault to be able to identify these symptoms of strangulation as a component of the violence.  \nThis presentation will address common myths and misconceptions related to strangulation injury and focus on the signs and symptoms of strangulation injury\, medical evaluation and documentation\, delayed fatalities\, and risk factors.   \nPresenter: Jonathan H. Kurland is an Attorney Advisor with Aequitas\, a program of the National Institution on the Prosecution of Domestic Violence  \nPrior to joining AEquitas\, Jonathan worked in the District Attorney’s Office of Berks County\, Pennsylvania where he started as a line Assistant District Attorney and prosecuted the range of cases typical for a jurisdiction with a combination of urban\, suburban\, and rural communities. However\, over time\, Jonathan’s focus increasingly trended to violent crime and cases involving the most vulnerable and exploited of victims. When Jonathan left after sixteen years in the District Attorney’s Office to join AEquitas\, he was the Chief Deputy District Attorney and supervised\, advised\, and still prosecuted matters involving intimate partner violence and homicides\, sexual violence\, child abuse\, and grand jury investigations.    \nThursday\, February 16\, 2023\, 1:30 – 3:30pm \nCape Cod & Islands Assoc. of Realtors Conference Room\n222 Mid-Tech Dr.\, West Yarmouth 02673 \nThis is an in-person meeting and there is no virtual option.  \nAll are welcome!      RSVP appreciated but not required.  \nRSVP to https://bit.ly/StrangulationinIPVRelationships \nFor questions\, please contact cherylc@indhouse.net .    \nThe CIRDVC is comprised of human service and social justice organizations\, prosecution\, corrections\, probation and law enforcement agencies\, health care\, court personnel\, attorneys and concerned individuals that meet quarterly for the purposes of networking and professional development regarding the issues that surround domestic violence.
