There are many ways to donate items throughout the year to Independence House.
In addition to the in-house food pantry located at our Hyannis office, we accept in-kind donations on an as-needed basis. Independence House distributes all in-kind donations to survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their children who are current clients.
Have you heard? Independence House is hosting a “Shelter Shower” for the new emergency domestic and sexual violence shelter that is opening in October of 2017. As part of a 10-year contract awarded to Independence House, the shelter will support the temporary housing of individuals as well as individuals with children who are in immediate crisis, seeking emergency safety from intimate partner violence. Click here to learn more about how you can help support the needs of the shelter at this time.
Independence House operates four offices on Cape Cod (Hyannis, Falmouth, Orleans and Provincetown) that support the needs of survivors of domestic and sexual violence in our community. Donations are welcome and are distributed to individuals and families in need.
Some suggestions that are helpful year round include:
- beauty products and toiletries
- feminine products
- seasonal items
- specialty items
- gift cards for supermarkets, retail outlets, gas stations
- food pantry items that are non-perishable and include expiration/best-buy dates that have not passed.
- diapers, baby food items
BACK TO SCHOOL:
Each year in August, Independence House holds an annual back-pack/back-to-school drive to ensure that participants of our child and teen programs as well as children of adult clients of Independence House start the school year with all of the essential items needed to support them for a successful school year. Items requested are new backpacks and new boxed school supplies such as pens, pencils, crayons, paper, binders, notebooks, erasers, pencil holders, lunch boxes, high-school aged calculators, dividers, folders, etc.
In late fall, our Holiday Giving Program commences to ensure client families are able to enjoy the seasonal fall and winter holidays with their children. Donations are accepted such as new unwrapped toys, gift cards, and holiday items. Monetary donations are also accepted towards holiday giving. During the Thanksgiving season, Independence also welcomes frozen turkeys and components of a holiday meal including potatoes (fresh or boxed), stuffing mixes, cranberries/canned cranberries, vegetables/canned vegetables, sugar, flour, and dessert type cakes/pie/bread mixes.
USED CLOTHING AND USED TOYS:
We are unable to accept USED clothing or USED toys.
Planet Aid supports Independence House with your donated used clothing and shoes. Please drop off your used clothing items in the Planet Aid bin located at the Mobil Station in Hyannis on Route 132 (next to Marylou’s Coffee). This Planet Aid bin is dedicated to support Independence House and generates quarterly payments by Planet Aid to Independence House that support the Independence House food pantry.
