One Billion Rising event scheduled for Feb 24

February 24@1:30 pm - 4:00 pm

On Friday, February 24, 2017 at 1:30-pm at the Yarmouth Senior Center located at 528 Forest Road in West Yarmouth, Independence House will join together with Age-Friendly Yarmouth to take a stand against Elder Abuse and celebrate with Women around the world as part of the One Billion Rising campaign.

Agencies and organizations will be present with information tables. They include: Independence House, Cape Cod Elder Abuse Coalition, Elder Services, Hoarding Task Force, Suicide Prevention and the Visiting Nurse Association.

One Billion Rising is the biggest mass action to end violence against women in human history. The campaign, launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS.

The highlight of the afternoon will be to take part in a “Movement Choir.”  This artistic expression of dance and song will be led by Bruce Frankel, author of What Should I Do With The Rest Of My Life? and will be followed by light refreshments. It’s a great time to light up the Winter through experiential learning while taking our stand against abuse in Yarmouth.  Everyone is invited to attend!
No experience required – just an open mind, desire to move and sing and the will to fulfill a purposeful life. It will be our Valentine to our Community here and around the World.

RSVP’s not required but welcome in order to plan for refreshments and space.  To RSVP, please contact Lisa Noferi at 508.394.7606 x 1333 or  email
